DOI: ten.7554/eLife.00036.Since the starting S2 cells are polyploid and are identified to be highly proliferative to start with (Moutinho-Pereira et al., 2010), we wondered if these properties could have contributed for the induction process. As a result we attempted an additional Drosophilia cell line, BG2, that is derived from the central nervous technique and which can be much less proliferative (Ui-Tei et al., 2000). Soon after 7 days and passaging, the BG2 cells also exhibited transformation phenotypes. Of nine independent transfection replicates in 48 nicely plates, 3 of them were effective, exhibiting morphological alterations and expression of endogenous mouse genes (Figure 3–figure supplement 3), such as in the majority (90 ) in the wells.
