Properdin Antibody (10-18)

Product: Suramin

Properdin Antibody (10-18) Summary

Immunogen
Native purified factor P from human serum.
Specificity
NB100-64749 recognizes human factor P, a 53 kDa glycosylated protein present in blood serum. Factor P binds to microbial surfaces and binds and stabilizes the complement component 3- and complement component 5-convertase enzyme complexes. C3b then acts as an opsonin or initiates the complement pathway again creating a positive feedback loop which acts only on the bacterial cell, leaving the host cells unharmed. Deficiency of factor P makes the host more susceptible to bacterial infections, particularly to Neisseria species and meningococcal infections.

Background

Properdin in plasma is a mixture of cyclic dimers, trimers and tetramers. The molecular weight of the glycosylated monomer is 53 kDa. Properdin is a regulator protein of the alternative complement pathway. It stabilizes the C3 convertase excreting its effect by binding to C3b in the C3bBb complex and thereby inhibiting cleavage of C3b by factor I and increasing the affinity for factor B. Serum concentration is approximately 25 ug/mL.
